I received an email offering tickets to Rock-am-Ring, I knew I wanted to win it, and hence I ended up winning 2 Coca Cola VIP tickets to one of the largest (wettest) and coolest music festivals in Germany. Rock-am-Ring 2009 here I come; I organised a hire car, asked my boss for a day off and drove 600 kilometers to Nürburgring. We were heading to Rock-am-Ring 2009 care of Coca Cola!

We arrived on Thursday night, set our tents up, and went in search of the camping party. Sure we didn’t find it because we had no map, however, what we did find was extremely prepared people who had been there since Tuesday, who had generators supplying power to sound systems in Pavilion style tents, so we partied enough for the evening before heading to our tents for some much needed rest prior to day 1 of music.

Exposed to the elements on the Center Stage and on the Alternastage, there were acts like The Prodigy, Placebo, Marilyn Manson, Enter Shikari, Bloc Party, Mando Diao, Madness, White Lies, Flogging Molly, Limp Bizkit, The Kooks, Peter Fox and Peter Bjorn and John, however with the weather being a little wet and stormy at times, why not head to the Coca-Cola Soundwave Tent where you can get warm and stay dry?

Highlights from the Coca-Cola Soundwave Tent were Basement Jaxx with their new single ‘Raindrops’ amongst favourites such as ‘Where’s Your Head At’ and ‘Take Me Back To Your House’, Polarkreis 18 rocked out in their stunning white stage outfits, leaving nothing to the imagination, however my personal favourite for the first day in the Tent was Eisblume – the Berlin band charmed the pants off us on Friday, what a front woman! Tracks like ‘Eisblumen’ and ‘Unter dem Eis’ had the audience captivated, hanging off every word and totally blown away after a fast 25 minute set.

The second day we were fortunate to catch … And You Will Know Us From The Trail Of Dead with two drummers keeping the set tight and guided. A surprise highlight was the captivating Dredg, whose drummer was amazing, that’s if you class amazing as being someone who can play drums and the keyboard AT THE SAME TIME!!! Once again, there has to be a highlight for the day, and for me personally, it was Duff McKagan’s Loaded.

Gaining fandom and success as Guns N Roses bass player for 15 years, and currently Velvet Revolvers bassist, Duff McKagan’s new project was him as the frontman of a punk rock outfit that played covers from bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Beatles, Iggy Pop And The Stooges, and of course Guns N Roses, this set blew my mind away! There was the artistic talent on stage and then there was the intro to ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and just before the lyrics drop, everything comes to a halt except the drums, with McKagan raising his right arm into the air then laughing “Aw, we got you there didn’t we? You recognise this shit coming up? We are going to need your help to sing along with this!” Then just like magic they kick straight into ‘Paradise City’. An awesome surprise for many fans standing with mouths agape.

A very satisfied recipient of Coca Colas VIP tickets. I cannot wait for the 25th anniversary of Rock-am-Ring in 2010! I’ll be there with bells on – well bells and a rain jacket and waterproof pants!

why do you write in English? Your report is good anyway but some facts are missing so I can only give you a "hilfreich". I really like the way you describe the bands but what about the location, about rules, campingplace etc.?I k now what you talk about as I were there but you should try writing reports for people who dont know the product.!verena
