In der nunmehr fünften, erneut aktualisierten und auf 200 Seiten erweiterten Auflage wird die Geschichte der Marke Land Rover von den Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart detailliert beschrieben und mit einer Vielzahl von Bildern illustriert. Die jüngsten Modellpflegemaßnahmen fehlen ebenso wenig wie ein eigenes Kapitel zum neuen Modell Range Rover Evoque. Auch auf den für 2015 terminierten Nachfolger des Urmodells Defender geben die Autoren bereits einen ersten Ausblick. The vehicle is famous for being the primary utility vehicle of the British Army. The term Wolf was a project name used by Land Rover to cover the British Army's recent range of vehicles. The name is not officially used by the MoD but adopted by soldiers as a generic term. The project designations were MoD: Higher Specification (HS) or Land Rover Ltd: eXtra Duty (XD) and there are 23 variants. The term "Wolf" should not be confused with the militarised Mercedes Geländewagen based "Wolf" marketed by Rheinmetall Defence. The Wolf is a UK MoD bespoke militarised version of the Land Rover Defender. Designated in service as Truck Utility Light or Truck Utility Medium (TUL/TUM) High Specification (HS), the TUL was based on the shorter wheel base Defender 90, whilst the TUM was based on the Defender 110. The Wolf carries a variety of crews, equipment and communication and information systems for commanders depending on role.

The Snatch Land Rover is a protected patrol vehicle, based around the Land Rover Defender 110 chassis, intended for general patrolling in low-threat areas and is the successor to the Truck Utility Medium with Vehicle Protection Kit . The vehicle was developed for use in the Northern Ireland area of operations in 1992, for use in rural patrolling and providing some degree of small arms protection for occupants and a limited level of protection from Improvised Explosive Devices and off-route mines. The Snatch is one of a range of vehicles which remains in use in Northern Ireland as well as the Iraq and Afghanistan operational areas. Use of the vehicle has been the subject of criticism as a consequence of a number of kinetic attacks which have exceeded the level of protection available, leading to occupant deaths.

Conceived by Maurice Wilks of the Rover Motor Company as Britain's answer to the ubiquitous Jeep, the Land-Rover made its bow in 1948. In accord with Wilk's desires it was more versatile than the Jeep, making it the ideal farming and countryside vehicle -- perhaps the first-ever sport-utility. An explosion of different body styles and wheelbase lengths soon enriched the range of this popular off-roader, as did diesel and even V-8 engines. The Series 2 version was introduced in 1958 and the Series 3 in 1971. Special forward-control and military versions only increased the range of tasks this amazing vehicle could accomplish. The original Land-Rover rolls on into the 21st Century, now styled as the Defender. Rare and original photos from the Ludvigsen Library and Marshall of Cambridge depict the evolution of this globe-girdling 4x4 over half a century, amplified by an introduction by "Landie" expert Paul Woods.
